PostSubject: Neeb's Junk Flea CTF Winner's Guide   Fri Aug 28, 2009 6:42 am

I have been playing CTF on Junk Flea since... well... forever.

Although I have lost some matches, most of the time the team I am on comes out the winner.

Not to brag, but there are a few things I'd like to say about this game mode when playing on Junk Flea.

Tactics

You can play one of three roles (actually four, but I'll get to that later) in Junk Flea CTF.

The first role is the flag grabber. Trust me, you will get killed a lot if you take this role, but it is extremely important - without at least one designated flag-grabber on your team, your team is most likely doomed to fail. Try to talk with your team if possible before game to designate someone to do this job.

To be the flag grabber, you first need speed. This is the most important function as a flag-grabber, so I suggest buying Mei or the female Specialist first. If you have Mei, get the Military Bandanna, a light vest, and unequip your backpack.

Higher ranks will have greater access to speed increasing gear so it's wiser to pick those with a high rank (and, preferably, NX) to do the job.

You will need a powerful, compact weapon. My two main suggestions would be the UMP and the Mac-10. In Junk Flea, shooting long-range isn't really too much of an issue, and you will need a fast but powerful weapon while holding off flag defenders from the other team. I suggest not equipping it with an optic or a suppressor, for the simple reason that they sort of hinder your vision. The suppressor is really not needed at such close ranges as encountered in Junk Flea.

There are four routes to the flag, and three routes back, if you are on Alpha.

Route 1: Go through the main tunnel, jump off of the little ledge (Don't go down the stairs), grab the flag.

Route 2: Skirt the tank on the right side of the map (near spawn) and proceed to flag.

Route 3: Skirt the tank on the left side of the map (near spawn) and proceed to flag.

Route 4: Go underneath the main tunnel and either go left or right and proceed to flag.

Pay attention to where certain enemy players are camping or going to. This will alter your decision on which route to take.

For example, if a very good player is commonly camping the main tunnel, you might want to go underneath it, because if you go to the right or left, he can still reach you, and can obviously also reach you through the tunnel.

Routes back:

Route 1: Go up the stairs and into the tunnel.

Route 2: Dash for the escape through the little alcove to the right of the Bravo spawn.

Route 3: Weave through the cargo boxes to the left of the Bravo spawn (you may want to ascend the stairs first, and drop down).

If you are on the Bravo side, the routes are generally similar, but there are certain important considerations to factor in.

The first and most common cause of death for a flag-grabber is people who hide in the upstairs room of the Alpha spawn. Once the flag has been taken, the "upstairs alpha spawn guy" can come out and easily shoot almost anywhere in the map. Even if he is late to come out, he can still kill you (the flag-grabber). If at all possible, have backup or run through this area yourself before getting the flag.

Watch out for mines, as they are hard to notice when descending/ascending the stairs in front of the Alpha spawn.

Above all, do not waste time. Even if you die, it's probable that you have helped someone else get the flag. Don't keep looking over your shoulder if you don't need to.

The Camper

It is the Camper's, or the Defender's, job to protect the flag by any means and cost. As a camper, your role is to hide in wait until you see the red words across the screen indicating that your flag has been taken. Then, you must shoot down the would-be flag taker so that one of your other teammates (or you yourself) can recover the flag.

Contrary to popular belief, this role is NOT for the faint-hearted. You will need split-second reflexes to accurately time your dash to the spot from which you will fire at the flag-taker from. Do not space out, as it could be fatal to you and your team.

I suggest staying in one place and shooting from there after the flag has been taken. The nature of your role is not to pursue the enemy, but to, literally, camp out.

The best places are the upstairs rooms of the Alpha and Bravo spawns. An advantage of these two locations are that from the ledge of both sides, you can shoot nearly anywhere in the map. Another advantage is that the player who might be camping at the Bravo spawn cannot reach you at the Alpha spawn "campsite" and vice versa.

I suggest wearing a heavy vest, an IBH or similar headgear and a gas-mask (if the other team is competent at all they WILL gas your spawn).

You will need a weapon with lots of damage. Chances are, you won't be able to keep your target in your sights for very long. The AK-47, AUG, and G36E are good weapons for this, as the AUG and G36E have excellent scopes, and the AK-47.. well, it can kill light-vested people with 2 shots.

Invest in high-capacity magazines (preferably 40 rounds) for this role.

The Assaulter

Your role will have two facets. The first, and most important, job for you is to kill any enemy you can find. That means unhesitantly storming the other team's spawn, in front of their spawn, near the flag, whatever. Don't hesitate. Throw grenades if you must, but only if you are sure there is a target where you are throwing (otherwise you're just wasting time that could have been used to kill an enemy).

The close-combat situations of Junk Flea means that you must keep moving. Swerve, weave, jump, anything. Don't give your enemy a still target he can fire upon, or, embarassingly, sneak up to you with a knife.

Your second job, but one that must not take the priority of the first is to defend the flag-grabber against other enemies.

There are a couple of reasons for this. You may ask: Why not defend the enemy flag?

Well, by default the flag-grabber will be moving at high speed, so it's likely the flag will advance greatly towards the friendly side providing he didn't die right after taking it.

Another reason is that one the enemy flag has been captured, you should assume that other enemies are either A: advancing toward your spawn to capture YOUR flag, or B: spreading out to provide the maximum amount of fire cover (the amount of space the enemy can fire upon to provide area denial). By following your first job, you will eliminate at least some of these enemies. However, if you try to defend the flag-grabber, your success will be determined whether he lives or dies, which he can probably do without your help.

For the Assaulter, I reccomend a moderately high-powered weapon with a high rate of fire (exception: Shotguns). Weapons such as the SCAR, G36E, AK74, M4A1, and the SIG 550 work well. I suggest only the M590 if using a shotgun as it is the only one that will provide a reliable one-hit kill.

That's it for now, I may update this as I see fit.

Have fun! Smile

Wow neeb. Very Happy
You bring to mind alot of things i never think about when i go into a common j.flea ctf. Like acsending up the alpha side tunnel stairs then dropping into the maze of cargo. I usually just snatch the flag and swirve around the tank. Great guide for people who don't do well here or just need a few tips.
Thanks for the post.
